Overview
This test demonstrates the distribution of functioning bone marrow within the skeleton.
Indications
Regional bone marrow abnormalities in general
Selection of bone marrow biopsy sites
Diagnosis of osteomyelitis in conjunction with In-111 white blood cell imaging
Bone Marrow
You have been scheduled for a Bone Marrow study which involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.
You will be positioned next to a special detector called a gamma camera. The camera does not produce any radiation. It will be placed close to the part of your body being imaged.
Patient Preparation
None.
Report to Union Hospital Admitting 15 minutes prior to your appointment time.
Procedure
A small amount of radioactive material will be injected into a vein in your arm. Painless images will be obtained for approximately one to two hours. Delayed images may be needed at 24 and 48 hours.
