Renogram (Renal Flow/Function/Imaging) with Captopril
A Renal Study with Captopril involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.
You will be positioned next to a special detector called a gamma camera. The camera does not produce any radiation. It will be placed close to the part of your body being imaged.
Patient Preparation
Hydrate before injection. Do not take blood pressure medications on the day of the exam.
Discontinue Capoten 2 days prior to the test and Vasotec 4 days prior to the test.
Procedure
An I.V. of Saline will be started to assure proper hydration. A urinary catheter may also be placed to assure your comfort throughout the procedure. After you have been Captopril and monitored for 1 hour, a small amount of radioactive material will be injected into a vein in your arm. Painless images will be obtained for approximately 60 minutes.
