Information for our Nuclear Medicine Patients
Esophageal Reflux - Pediatric
Your child has been scheduled for an Esophageal Reflux - Pediatric study that involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.
Your child will be positioned next to a special detector called a gamma camera. The camera does not produce any radiation. It will be placed close to the part of the child’s body being imaged.
Patient Preparation
Nothing by mouth after midnight before the exam
Procedure
Your child will be given a small amount of radioactive material through a naso-gastric tube, or a bottle at normal feeding time. Painless images will be obtained for approximately one hour. Images the next day may be required. These images
last for only a few minutes.
