Our History
Since the establishment of the Terre Haute Medical Laboratory on October 7, 1947, by Dr. Leon L. Blum, our goal has been to provide the Wabash Valley with the best possible laboratory services. As our facilities have expanded to meet the needs of the medical community, the complexities of laboratory testing have also grown.
Terre Haute Medical Laboratory's main facility is located in the lower level of Union Hospital. We also operate the laboratory at West Central Community Hospital. Both locations are open 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Outpatient phlebotomy services are located at the Terre Haute MedLab Patient Service Center, Professional Office Building, Thomas Professional Plaza and Professional Plaza. The Business Office is located behind Union Hospital at 634 Beech St. We also operate the laboratories at AP&S Clinic, AP&S Northside, Union Hospital Family Practice Center, Cork Medical Center in Marshall, IL and Clay City Center for Family Medicine.
MedLAB is accredited by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation
Program (HFAP) through the inspection and accreditation program of
the College of American Pathologists. We participate in the College of American Pathologists Quality Assurance Programs,
and various Survey Programs. Each section within the laboratory has extensive internal and external quality control programs which meet or exceed all current federal and state requirements.
While most tests are performed in-house, some procedures are sent to
reference laboratories which have been approved by CLIA. We have an exemption from CLIA of 1967 for interstate testing.
THML is committed to continue to provide superior laboratory services tailored to meet the needs of the medical community. We believe that the health care professionals in the Wabash Valley will continue to appreciate the importance of local, superior, clinically relevant, personalized laboratory services as they strive for efficient, competitively priced health care.
