Oncoscint™ Scan
An Oncoscint™ study involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.
You will be positioned next to a special detector called a gamma camera. The camera does not produce any radiation. It will be placed close to the part of your body being imaged.
Patient Preparation
None. Please notify Nuclear Medicine if you have ever received a murine monoclonal antibody as part of a nuclear medicine test in the past or have had an allergic reaction to a monoclonal antibody injection. A lab test for HAMA is required in these cases.
Procedure
You will visit the department 3 times. On your first visit, a small amount of radioactive material will be injected into a vein in your arm. Painless images will be obtained for one hour. On your second visit (48 hours) images will be obtained for 1-2 hours also. On your third visit (72 hours), images will take 1-3 hours to complete.
