Overview
This test demonstrates regional perfusion and changes in bone metabolism.
Indications
Osteomyelitis
Musculoskeletal trauma
Primary benign and malignant bone lesions
Reflex sympathetic dystrophy
Limited Bone/Three Phase Bone Scan
A Limited Bone/Three Phase Bone study involves the use of a small amount of
radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has
no side effects.
You will be positioned next to a special detector called a gamma camera. The
camera does not produce any radiation. It will be placed close to the part of
your body being imaged.

Patient Preparation
None.
Report to Union Hospital Admitting at least 15 minutes before your appointment time.
Procedure
You will have 2 visits to the department. On your first visit, a small amount of radioactive material will be injected into a vein in your arm. Painless images will be obtained for approximately 30 minutes. On your second visit (2-3 hours later), images will be obtained for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.
