Exercise Wall Motion
An Exercise Wall Motion study involves the use of a small amount of radioactive material. The level of radioactivity used is extremely low and has no side effects.
You will be positioned next to a special detector called a gamma camera. The camera does not produce any radiation. It will be placed close to the part of your body being imaged.
Patient Preparation
You cannot have any food or drink 3 hours before the test. And if not contraindicated by your physician, do not take Beta-blockers for 48 hours and calcium channel blockers for 24 hours prior to the exam. Wear or bring comfortable clothing and shoes, as you will be asked to exercise on a treadmill. Informed consent will be obtained.
Procedure
Using an I.V. Catheter in a vein in your arm, your red blood cells will be tagged with a radioactive material. Painless images will be taken as you lay on your back. This takes about 20 minutes. You will then be asked to exercise on a bicycle while painless images are obtained during stress (exercise).
